The Evergreen Gallery lies at the very center of the small town of Evergreen, Colorado, which is rich in beauty and possesses a history dating back to the 1860s.
The charm, ambiance, scenery, and locale of Evergreen create the feeling of “getting away from it all,” with only a 35-minute drive from Denver. The gallery was established in 1987 and boasts of being the oldest existing gallery in the Evergreen Community.
Meryl Sabeff, the owner and a long-term resident of Evergreen, established the gallery to provide fine crafts and fine arts created by Colorado artisans. Meryl is an award-winning, professional potter, who has produced porcelain ware for over two decades. The gallery represents 90 of the most talented and recognized artists in Colorado. The artwork represented includes pottery, jewelry, hand-blown glass, woodworking and turning, original paintings, limited edition prints, serigraphs, photography, textiles, mixed media, stained glass, and sculpture, and all the
Evergreen, Jefferson County area scenic prints released since 1983.
The Evergreen Gallery is home to several thoughtfully curated exhibitions, featuring the works of local artists and showcasing famous artists from around the world. Past exhibits have included displays by renowned painters Mattisse and Chagall, as well as contemporary pieces by up-and-coming artists. The focus of the artwork in the gallery reflects the beautiful and awe-inspiring landscape, wildlife, light, textures, color, and vibrancy of Colorado’s Evergreen Lake and Bear Creek. The Evergreen Gallery is also well-known for its “Theme” exhibits where gallery artists and special area artisans use their ingenuity to create two and three-dimensional pieces for our yearly calendar of events.
It is with pride that many of the gallery’s artists donate their art pieces to wildlife conservation, land preservation, and local and national fund-raising projects that are near and dear to their hearts. Aside from its impressive art collection, the gallery also features regular events and activities that encourage visitors to appreciate art in new ways. For example, they host artist workshops that allow guests to engage with art on a deeper level through hands-on demonstrations and critiques.
Additionally, they hold several outreach programs for children and families in the community who want to learn more about art or explore their creativity through various artistic mediums. Furthermore, gallery staff help to make selections for all of life’s special moments, offering gifts for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, mothers and fathers, graduates, and all the special holidays throughout the year.
The Evergreen Gallery celebrated its 27th-anniversary last month, an impressive accomplishment for this privately owned shop. Over half of the artisans whose work is displayed here live and work along the Front Range. That includes Meryl Sabeff, the original owner, who still lives in Evergreen and actively creates pottery to sell at the gallery. The gallery took on a new look in 2018 with the expertise of the local interior designer, Alexa Cowley Interiors. The gallery closed for a month to bring on a “modern” Colorado feel. Many of the same favorite artists remain.
However, new artists are also on the shelves and walls, with artwork changing almost daily. The owner is even planning to expand on the concept of this well-loved Colorado artisan gallery. As of June 2018, the 28-year-old tradition of the Evergreen Angel pendants became exclusively located at this gallery. The original owners of the Evergreen Angels decided to retire and close the previous location at the
Evergreen Fine Art Gallery. However, this program is still going and does continue to benefit the local Mount Evans Home Health Care and Hospice.
The Evergreen Gallery is located in historic downtown Evergreen across the street from Baskin Robbins Ice Cream.
