Fountain El Paso County

The City of Fountain is a home rule municipality located in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. The city of Fountain is located within the Colorado Springs, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Front Range Urban Corridor. This town had a total area of 14,416 acres (58.341 km2), including 16 acres (0.064 km2) of water. The eponymous Fountain Creek flows south through the city.

Fountain is located just east of Fort Carson and 10 miles (16 km) south of downtown Colorado Springs. In addition to Fountain, Colorado Springs suburbs Security and Widefield make up the “Fountain Valley” community. The town is bordered by Fort Carson to the northwest, Security-Widefield to the north and Wigwam to the south.

Fountain straddles Interstate 25. Other major highways serving the town include U.S. Route 85 and State Highway 16. I-25 forms a natural border to the northwest and turns to the southeast midway. CanAm Highway becomes Santa Fe Avenue after crossing SH 16 heading south. Fountain can be accessed via Marksheffel Road from the northeast. Santa Fe Avenue serves as the main street.

Fountain is home to Wilson Farmstead State Historical Sears Home on Old Pueblo Road. The City of Fountain is also home to Fountain Creek Regional Park. Other parks and green spaces in the city include Fountain Mesa Park, Cross Creek Regional Park, Conley Park, Hibbard Park, Playground At Fountain Mesa Village, Metcalfe Park, Metcalfe Hondo Memorial Doggie Park, and John H Lindamood Memorial Park.

Fountain is served by El Paso County School District 8. Places of education serving Fountain include Fountain-Fort Carson High School and Jordahl Elementary School both adjacent to Fountain-Fort Carson Stadium. Places of worship in Fountain include Fellowship Of The Rockies Fountain, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and St. Chad’s Anglican Mission.

Fountain has a municipal-run bus that links the city with Pikes Peak Community College. Fountain is also part of the Bustang network, which provides it intercity transportation. It is along the Lamar-Pueblo-Colorado Springs Outrider line.
